Mock OSCEs are an integral part of preparing our residents for their Royal College OSCE exams, which take place in May of their PGY4. From PGY2 onwards, the residents participate in Mock OSCEs to practice and gain familiarity with the exam format in a low-stakes setting.
PGY2-3 residents participate in 2 OSCEs per year while the PGY4 residents participate in 3 OSCE sessions.
Mock OSCE Format:
- Two sessions: AM (8:15am-12:30pm) & PM (12:30pm-4:30pm).
- Examiners are responsible for their own Station and assigned 1-2 Case Scenarios to test each resident.
- Residents complete between 2-6 stations and each examiner can expect ~6 residents per half-day session.
- Residents rotate stations every 30 minutes – (20 minutes for the case and 10 minutes for feedback).
- Mock OSCE’s are structured similarly to the RC OSCE's; all residents will start each station at the same time and we adhere to a strict schedule throughout the day.
- All sessions are conducted virtually through Zoom.
Examiners:
- A UBC Faculty Appointment is required in order to participate in the Mock OSCE's.
- All eligible Faculty are paid the hourly rate.
- Examiner will receive Case Scenario(s) in advance of the OSCE for ample time to review.
- Both AM and PM sessions begin with a brief Examiner Orientation explaining Zoom, case logistics and to answer any questions.
If you have any other questions regarding the structure of the day, please email Raquel Portillo at raquel.portillo@ubc.ca. Thank you very much!
